Compaxo, Gouda
Compaxo in Gouda produces various varieties of cold meats, including smoked and cooked. The raw ingredients are supplied by their own slaughterhouse in Zevenaar.
The Van Abeelen Cooling Solution
In 2006 Van Abeelen Koeltechniek delivered an Ammonia/Pekasol cooling plant with a cooling capacity of 200 kW, to replace an existing installation.
In 2010, two more Ammonia/Pekasol installations were delivered to replace existing installations. These cooling plants have a cooling capacity of 170 kW and a 280 kW freezing system. For the refrigeration installation, a possible further extension of 550 kW has been provided for.
At the moment we are working to commission the 1,200 kW NH3 cooling plant, which we designed.
The design is an installation that uses 100% natural refrigerants; the goal was to keep the ammonia content as low as possible. In our design, this is limited to the engine room. The cooling ingredient is pumped to the cells by means of the refrigerant, Pekasol. This solution optimally guarantees both food safety, as well as the safety of personnel.
The total capacity of the plant is 1,178 kW, with 3 high-efficiency industrial compressors, fitted with an economiser, to optimize efficiency.
A hybrid condenser solution was chosen to ensure that the energy-efficiency of the plant delivers optimal performance during all phases of the daily cycle. The combination of an air-cooled condenser, equipped with EC fans, and an evaporative condenser, equipped with a frequency-controlled fan, makes this possible.
Furthermore, the “residual energy” of the cooling system is used, as far as possible, for, amongst other things, defrosting the air coolers and heating the water for processing.
The combination of these elements, together with many years’ experience in designing energy-efficient refrigeration units, have resulted in an energy-efficient and future-ready refrigeration installation.
