Control technology and remote monitoring

A cooling system may be technically well built, but without smart control, you won’t get the most out of it. The control system determines how stable, energy-efficient, and reliable an installation runs. Therefore, control technology is an important part of the design, especially for industrial cooling and freezing systems.

Van Abeelen Koudetechniek develops and manages control technology for cooling systems, freezing systems, process cooling and air conditioning systems. With remote monitoring, we keep installations under control remotely and can detect deviations more quickly.

Smart control for refrigeration technology

Modern cooling systems respond to factors such as load, temperature, pressure and energy consumption. Pumps, compressors, valves and other components must work in precise harmony with one another.

Due to the limited availability of electricity, our intelligent systems take into account the available capacity, the current cooling demand, and the priority assigned to each process or space. Spaces with a critical temperature are given priority, while others may be temporarily cooled less.

The current energy price can also be taken into account. This way, the available capacity is distributed intelligently, peaks are limited, and product quality and business continuity are guaranteed.

Modularly built software

Van Abeelen’s control software is modularly structured. Various software modules can be linked together and adapted to the functions and size of the installation. This allows the control system to be designed specifically and subsequently easier to expand or modify.

The individual software blocks remain as similar as possible. This ensures recognition and a consistent structure within different installations. As a result, installers can understand how the control system works more quickly, analyze malfunctions more easily, and provide more targeted service.

Remote monitoring via IXON

With remote monitoring, important installation data is monitored remotely. This includes temperatures, pressures, malfunctions, operating hours, alarms, and performance. This provides a clear picture of the current operation and performance of the installation.

The connection to the installation is made via an IXON router. This router establishes a secure connection to the customer portal. Through this portal, both the customer and Van Abeelen have secure access to the installation and the available data.

Administrators and technical services can thus see more quickly what is happening and make better-informed decisions. From a distance, Van Abeelen can monitor things, recognize deviations early, and prepare service more effectively. This saves time and helps to react faster when an installation is not functioning properly.

Respond faster to deviations

In cooling technology, small deviations can have major consequences. A temperature that rises slowly, a pump that operates differently, or a component that switches on and off more frequently than usual can be a sign that something is not right.

By properly tracking data, problems can be identified earlier. That doesn’t prevent every malfunction, but it does help to react faster and more purposefully.

Also for existing installations

Control technology and remote monitoring are not only interesting in new construction. Existing installations can often be more intelligently controlled as well. An update of the control system can lead to greater insight, better performance and lower energy consumption.

Van Abeelen assesses the existing installation and looks at which adjustments are technically feasible. Sometimes it involves new sensors or software. Sometimes it involves broader optimization of the installation.

What makes good control engineering important?

  • More stable temperature control
  • Smart distribution of the available electrical power
  • Control based on cooling demand and priority per room
  • Possibility to take into account current energy prices
  • Modularly built and easily expandable software
  • Faster fault analysis through recognizable software blocks
  • Secure remote access via IXON
  • Improved service and maintenance

Controls as part of the entire design

At Van Abeelen, control technology is integrated with the installation. Our engineers look at the overall system: cooling technology, hydraulics, electrical engineering, software, user requirements and service. This ensures that the system is tailored to the practical requirements.

That makes the difference between an installation that only runs and an installation that performs smartly.
